These terms are the agreement between you and Lost Atlas (“we”) for using the website at lostatlas.org and the Lost Atlas apps (together, “Lost Atlas”). By creating an account or using Lost Atlas you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Lost Atlas is in beta. Features change, things break, and we may reset or remove parts of the service while we build it.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Lost Atlas.
- Give us a real email address you control, and keep your password and any API tokens secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person per account. Don’t impersonate anyone.
Your content
You own what you post: places, lists, articles, photos and comments. We don’t claim ownership of any of it.
So that we can run the service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, resize, display and transmit your content, only as needed to operate Lost Atlas and to show it to the people you have chosen to share it with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups, which expire on the schedule in the privacy policy, and content that others already received through a share you made.
You must have the right to post what you post. Don’t upload photos or text that belong to someone else without permission.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Lost Atlas to post or share content that:
- is illegal, or promotes illegal activity;
- harasses, threatens, bullies or targets a person or group;
- is hateful or discriminatory based on race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation or similar characteristics;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises minors in any way;
- depicts or encourages graphic violence, self-harm or suicide;
- reveals someone else’s private information, including where they live or where they are, without their consent;
- is spam, a scam, or misleading about who you are;
- infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights.
And don’t:
- try to get into accounts or data that aren’t yours, or get around access levels, rate limits or other protections;
- disrupt the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without our permission, or overload it, including with automated traffic beyond what the developer API allows;
- scrape the service or resell access to it.
Reporting and zero tolerance
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. You can report any post, list, comment or user, and block users so you no longer see them or hear from them. You can also email [email protected].
We review reports within 24 hours. When content breaks these terms we remove it, and we suspend or remove the account that posted it.
Ending your account
- You can stop using Lost Atlas and delete your account at any time from Settings. What deletion removes is described in the privacy policy.
- We may suspend or close your account, and remove your content, if you break these terms, if we must by law, or to protect other people or the service. Where it is safe and lawful we will tell you why.
- If we shut Lost Atlas down we will give you reasonable notice and a way to get your data out first.
Third-party services
Lost Atlas shows place data, maps, routes and assistant answers from other providers. They can be wrong. Don’t rely on Lost Atlas for safety-critical navigation, and check opening hours, access and conditions yourself before you go somewhere. Assistant answers are made by an AI model and can be mistaken.
No warranty
Lost Atlas is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Lost Atlas. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email before a significant change takes effect. If you keep using Lost Atlas after that, the new terms apply.
